Langkawi actually consists of 99 islands, but only the main island has tourist infrastructure. The island has some beautiful beaches and there are plenty of things to do for people traveling to the island.
Some of the more popular beaches include Pantai Cenang, Burau Bay, Pantai Kok and Pantai Datai. Langkawi has some world class resorts and some budget accommodation.
Pulau Payar Marine Park is popular for diving and snorkelling.
Langkawi is a duty-free destination, making it a popular place for shopping. Most of the shops are located in the main town of Kuah and in the airport.
Ferries go from Kuala Perlis and Kuala Kedah on the mainland. You can also take a ferry from the island of Penang. Langkawi evn offers direct air connections to to London, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
Langkawi is still fairly undeveloped and the island maintains a rural feel with rice paddies and buffaloes grazing around the island.
You can take a cable car that travels above the rainforest. Although you can expect some rain during rainy season, Langkawi is a great place to travel to all year round.
