HP mini 110 netbook review

Fast, cheap and reliable netbook
I just purchased a HP mini 110 netbook computer after reading different reviews for netbooks on the internet. So far I am fairly impressed with the tiny laptop, both its design and computing power.
The version I bought had Windows XP pre-installed, which I am familiar with so I don’t need to learn a new operating system. The netbook starts up fairly quickly and you can be checking your email before your first coffee is even made.
The HP mini 110 should suit people who are on the go and spend most of their time sending emails, making documents and surfing the internet. It’s compact size makes it possible to slip it into a satchel, still leaving room for other things you might want to carry in your bag. It weighs just 2.89lbs and has a 10.1 inch screen.
The casing feels very durable, with nice rounded corners. Other laptops I have had various plastic covers and pieces that eventually broke off. The HP mini is a solid unit that feels very robust.
The power switch is located on the very front of the laptop and has a switch that is sometimes a little akward to turn on. I would prefer to have the power switch just above the keyboard. The mouse touch pad has taken some time to get used to and I still prefer to use a mouse with the laptop. The laptop has three USB ports.
The keyboard on the HP mini has large keys that only require a soft touch. The only complaint I have is that I often find myself accidently turning on the caps lock. Since I rarely turn on the caps lock, it would be nice to have press it in conjunction with another key to turn on.
I have Microsoft Office installed and it runs smoothly on the netbook. The laptop comes with wifi and so far I am yet to experience any problems with this. Battery life is up to 8 hours and is pretty good for a laptop of its size.
The maximum screen resolution is 1024 by 600 pixels, which might be a problem if you want to run any high end graphics programs. The screen resolution however is very clear and the fonts very crisp.
Another aspect that is great about the laptop is the price! I bought it for just under US$350. When you compare this to some of the PDAs and smart phones that are being sold on the market, this laptop is great value and perfectly priced for students or as a second computer.
